Marie's Story
I'm a long term government employee. The benefit of this is that I'll have my full retirement at 55.
Since graduating high school I married, divorced and married again on a Friday the 13th, eleven years ago. I'm happily married to my soulmate and can't imagine my life without him. I couldn't have kids but we still always had kids in our lives. I'm now a pseudo grandma to my niece's little boy, Atticus (named after Atticus Finch from "To Kill a Mocking Bird")
I battled and beat Breast cancer in my 30's which sucked big time. Being a fighter and wanting to make a crappy situation count for something, I worked during chemo and radiation to send a positive message of hop...Expand for more
e and awareness to my coworkers. Now I'm in a lifetime study of radiation after effects and my DNA is on file in the scientific hunt for more cancer genes. I also organize mobile mammography visits to the office I work at, because early detection is crucial to saving lives.
I still have a love of cars and own a '69 Olds 442, '64 Volvo P1800S and a '07 Stang. The Olds is the fastest, the P1800S gets the most head turns and the Stang gets the best mileage.
I'd have to say that Dan Jiru's Social Justice class had the most impact on my life. It shaped the manner in which I live my life.
I've always worked in the social arena: unemployment, child abuse and now disability.
