Marie's Story
Immediately after graduation, I attended Columbia State Community College. There, I participated in the biology research project: the annotation analysis of Microbacterium phage Jannah, which was published in 2021. Additionally, I was a member of Phi Theta Kappa, Sigma Kappa Delta, the President's Leadership Society, and served as a treasurer for the Student Government - this was a dream of mine in high school!

ts infection with Enterococcus simulans, a putative novel bacterium. I was also the teaching assistant of the college's Microbiology for Nurses class during the spring 2023 semester.
After graduation, I took a gap year and traveled to Germany, learning German as a foreign language. I always wanted to travel to Europe, strengthened by the growing relationship I had with my now husband, who lived in Germany. In March 2025, I obtained my B1 certificate in German from the Goethe-Zentrum in Atlanta. Back in the United States, I worked as a pathology lab assistant in Columbia until early 2026, when my husband and I eloped in Copenhagen and settled in Germany.
