Marie's Story
Life
My husband and I have been married for 19 yrs. Scot is now a retired SSG of the U.S Army after 22 1/2 yrs. We are still living in Killeen/Fort Hood, and he now works as a military contractor for BAE. We have three wonderful kids who definitely keep us on our toes. I never realized teenagers could require so much energy. I am currently working towards my MSW and I am working with women who are currently serving time in one of our many Texas prisons. This was not a path I thought I would take, but I admit that it's pretty neat. To be able to help people who don't realize that their behaviors are the reason for their problems and see them start to grow and change and hopefully become productive citizens is an amazing thing. It's also very humbling, because for the grace of God I could be walking in their shoes. One day I still hope to work with soldiers, but I'm not sure I want to do it in a medical setting. I am so humbled when I get to spend time and talk with the HERO's that make up our military, and I'm looking forward to being able to help them in whatever way I can.
What about you would surprise everyone at your high school reunion?
I might be a little more cynical than I was in high school, though I think I see more strenghts in people now than I do their challenges
Which teacher would you love to see again? Why?
This is one I can't even begin to answer. I honestly have no idea
What¿s the wildest thing you ever did in school?
I don't think I was all that wild, but maybe I'm just in denial ;0)
What happened to your first crush?
I think he still lives in the Fernley area. I haven't seen him in 20 yrs, but I hope that he's had a wonderful and fullfilling life.
How do you hope old friends remember you?
That's hard, since how I hope they remember me may not actually be the way they do. I hope that they knew that I honestly cared about them.
To be truly happy, you would be where, doing what, with whom? I would be right were I am now, doing what I'm doing with the family I'm doing it with. They fullfill me in every thing I do and I'm so blessed to have them.
Life doesn¿t always turn out the way you expect. What¿s been your biggest surprise.
That both of my parent's were gone before I...Expand for more
was 40. That was honestly the biggest shocker of my life.
You get one do-over. What do you do differently
Not anything. Everything that I have experienced, good and bad has made me who I am today, and I don't think that's a bad thing at all.
Where have you lived? Why did you move
Boise Idaho for college. Fort Stewart Georgia, because the Army felt I needed to experience the biggest bugs I've ever seen not to mention the ungodly humidity. Fort Hood Texas, because I made someone mad in a previous life and I'm being punished ;-)... If the war hadn't started we would be at Fort Carson, Colorado at this point.
just about anything physical will help. Oh, and the occasional temper tantrum will sneak in every now and again ;0)
My best friend would tell you I'm a pushover, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as oppositional and very headstrong.
oh my heavens NO! I'm comfortable with being the age I am. I don't feel the need to dress like my 18 yr old daughter YIKES. Unfortunately I see a lot of women who haven't come to terms with the fact they aren't 20 any longer and look pretty foolish trying to dress like one. On that same note, it doesn't mean that I'm frumpy either ;0)
If I could improve my home, I'd remodel the kitchen and add on a second story. My dream home would be an old plantation home somewhere around Savannah. I LOVE Savannah.
My career aspirations are what they've always been. I want to be in a career where I can help people change their lives for the better, whatever that means to them. I think I'm doing that as a Social Worker. I won't ever make much money, but for me money isn't the scale with which I measure my success.
Normally I would be at the gym or running, but currently I've taken up rock climbing when I have time.
as a Social Worker I really try NOT to be obsessive ;0)I do find that I'm pretty 'involved' with anything my kids do. I would classify that as my only obsession
Allow them to be who they are, and love them because of their uniqueness. There is not need to try and mold them into something they aren't.
I belong to Phi Alpha Zeta and I am the Vice President of the TSU-CT ANAD chapter. Both keep me pretty involved with the community
