marietta's Story

Sept. 15, 2015 Well, the info below is old hat! I made it back to Wisconsin in October of 2015 originally purchasing a home in Hales Corners..... Long story short....didn't work out so I ended up in Mt. Pleasant. A very nice little community with lots of things close to home. My mother has turned 97 this past August and is doing well and my son and daughter-in-law have announced baby #2 is no the way in March.... Retired as of December of 2015 and bored out of my head. Don't know if I could handle the winters and am seriously thinking about heading west again in the spring after the baby is born. We'll see. Hope all of who read this are doing well and happy! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It says right above this box to remind you who I am in the event you could have possibly forgotten me! For those of you in Poms, you'll certainly remember me. I was the one that brought a record home that we were going to use during half-time at a basketball game. Unfortunately on the way back to school on Friday with record in hand, it rained. YEP, you got it, the record warped and it sounded like the Mickey Mouse Club singing the song on speed! Needless to say I was thrown out for not taking it seriously. As a matter of fact, the picture of that unfortunate happening happens to be in our 1967 yearbook... I'm the one on the far right with my head down because I was laughing so hard I was almost crying. Do you think my previous pom picture (Of me in the center of the line, in the crack of the cover) of the 1966 yearbook was a bad omen? Anyway things did improve for me from there. I attended UW Milwaukee, MSOE (didn't graduate) and before going back to school I worked as a flight attendant for United Airlines. It was the best waitress gig imaginable. From there I got married and divorced, have a great son Chris (Attorney) who I'm so proud of.... Just the nicest guy on the planet... Love him to pieces... He would die on the spot to know I've just posted that... "OH MOM!" I have a super daughter-in-law Kristin, she is the head something or other for the Lakefront Brewrey...best fish fry in town from what I'm told, and then of course there is Reagan.... The love of my life. My little granddaughter who just turned one year old... I did some pretty fun things in my life and loved every phase of it. Started out selling electronic components to medical instrument...Expand for more
companies primarily and it was a so much fun. I was one of very few women doing that during the early 80's but what fun! Challenging but any of you that remember me know would get it! After 23 years of hi-tech I hit the bottom of the slug and worked for Waste Management for 9 years, was transferred to AZ and after three years promptly fired!!! HEY COME ON, you have to get fired at least once in your life! Funny story about that. I was challenged working there because there were many fine people but just as many slugs. I started praying, 'Lord, I have never quit anything in my life, this is just going to have to quit me! I can't take another day'. NEVER DO THAT!!!! I was fired that day. On my way to my car (I was a member of the President's Club, Emerald Circle blah blah blah...meant nothing except that I made decent money) they're running after me with my boxes of plaques asking what they should do with them.. AGAIN, those of you who really know me, know the answer to that! I got in my car chuckling and saying out loud, 'Lord, I know what I said this morning, but wasn't that just a little sudden'? It was truthfully the best thing that could have ever happened to me.. I landed back in aviation. I was the Marketing Director for PanAm International Flight Academy. I had great fun rebranding the school to what is now known as TransPac Aviation Academy. Loved my job there. I enjoyed the CEO, I learned a lot from him and he too was good to me. As a thank you he was going to send me anywhere in the world I wanted to go for 10 days.. Anywhere.... I'm so exciting, I went to San Luis Obispo (wine country) and drank my way up and down the coast visiting all the wineries and making many friends along the way. All expenses paid, chauffeur (which was good because I bought so much wine I could never have carried it) and had an amazing experience. From there I went to Westwind School of Aeronautics and broke away from their payroll becoming an Independent Consultant working with a number of schools. LOVED most of my life. Only draw-back is I'm in AZ... not home with my family. My mom is going to be 96 in August, my dad passed away in 2012 and the rest of the family is just old! EXCEPT ME, the princess of the family...sure, right...those of you who know me know that too! Anyway, hope you got a few chuckles out of this craziness...hope to hear from some of you. If you want to visit AZ, I know a fine HOTEL, it's called HOTEL HUENEKE.... Fine place and the doors are always open!
