Marilyn's Story
Hi, I'm Marilyn Grell (Nelson) graduate of
st. Joe's iin 1956. My husband of over 50 years is Rick Nelson, also of the class of 56, We left Beatrice in 1959 when Rick enrolled at NU Lincoln and I became one of the famous (or infamous) wives of the graduates who, when oujr husbands graduated, received our own special diplomas, a PhT (pitting hubby through). The Lincoln years were good ones. I worked in several doctor's offices, notably John Cline's who had been in OB/GYN in Beatrice and went to Lincoln where he practiced with the perhaps limited help of me and Rick's and my friend, Kathy Mahoney Nehe ('57). Rick graduated in '64 from the U (by that time we were adoptive parents of our daughter Stephanie, and we were off to Minneapolis, MN where I was able to stay in medical office w...Expand for more
ork while Rick finished his MA and the his PhD in ancient history. In 1968 Rick went to Augsburg College in Mpls. That same year we adopted our son Gregory. I was fortunate to meet , work for, and become office mgr. for Richard Sweet M.D. who founded a practice in kidney disease in the Twin Cities, a practice which upon my retirement numbered nearly twenty physicians. Rick retired. from Augsburg in 2000, as professor emeritus, the same year I retired from Dr. Sweet's corporate practice.. We are the grandparents of three, and the great grandparents of one (so far). St. Joseph's, its teaching staff, the good Benedictine sisters from Atchinson , our Pastor, Msgr Mock, and his assistants, Fr, Michael Danko, and especially Fr. Stan Schieffer are owed debts we shall never fully repay..
