Marilyn's Story

Life When I lost both my parents, I turned to writing down my feelings. In 2004, my first poem was published. I belong to a website for poets, "Poetry.com". Check it out if you are interested in writing or reading poetry. Currently, I am working on a project to publish a book my mom wrote before she passed away in 1994. Her kidneys failed in 1974 and she spend her last 20 years on kidney dialysis. She wrote a manual for dialysis patients and their families. It is full of recipes and helpful information on managing kidney disease. Everything I have to compile this book was handwritten by my mother and it has become a major undertaking. I would love to hear from anyone out there who has experience with a loved one with kidney disease. Workplace I've worked for the San Diego Zoo for 11 years. I went back to school in 2002 and received a degree in Veterinary Assisting. I now work in...Expand for more
the Avian Propagation Center. I spend my days preparing food and caring for baby birds. The work is hard and long but I wouldn't have it any other way. I lost my younger brother, Ted, in August 2007. This past year has been the most difficult I have ever experienced. Ted and I were always very close growing up but we found as we grew older that the bond was even stronger. His daughter, Ashley, is 6 months older than my son, Eric and we spend many a weekend together. Ted loved to take the kids fishing, hiking, and camping in our local mountains. I struggle everyday with the emptiness. RIP, little brother. I have a new addition to my household. A few months ago I adopted a 5 year old African Grey Parrot(Harley) from the San Diego Humane Society. She is very talkative and loves music. While I am at work she listens to Music Choice on the t.v. and perfects her latest dance moves.

Took a selfie on my 68th birthday.
Overwhelmed with sadness. My dear friend, Marie Aldrich passed away today. My heart is 💔😢😭. So glad we were able to reconnect after all these years. Rock on little sis. Give Ted a big hug for me too.
