Marilyn's Story
I am not sure how to encapsulate almost 50 years into 20,000 characters! Main job (20 years) was in the hospital system laboratories, Microbiology and Pathology (3 hospitals) as secretary/medical transcription. English degree from UBC and I tutored from my home from elementary grades to university, ESL, for many years. Married to a wonderful man, Kelly, for 40 years but he sadly passed away from prostrate cancer in 2018. Together, we travelled on 4 international trips - China/Southern Africa/Cambodia and Vietnam/India. We lived on a 30ft sailboat for ten years in False Creek and had many adventures also kayaking, canoeing, biking and just enjoying life and love. We ended up buying 5 acres of forested land in Shawnigan Creek and built a house on it, and enjoyed 20 years there before Kelly passed. I study under a Tibetan Buddhist teacher who lives in Courtenay, and so since I was retired and had no children, I moved to Courtenay to be closer to my sangha friends and teacher, and to do spiritual work in my final years. e 2018, first in an owned condo but I sold that so I can travel and write and publish books including all my journals from trips and a book of my poetry. I am living in a lovely rental house. I hope to travel again to India (I have been 3 times). I am currently editing/writing a 20 year commemorative book for the sangha. I zoom tutor a Tibetan monk from Kathmandu, Nepal once a week. I am grateful for the wonderful years at Killarney Secondary and for my life in general. I try to do yoga, walk with my 8.5 year old golden retriever Fred, and I am so loving reading all the books in my book shelf now that I have time! I, I, I...but there was no way around it for a short snapshot of my last 50 years since Killarney. Ultimately, I can say I have known great people, and had true love with my husband. Life has been a gift and I have tried not to waste it. Oh ya, I am a good astrologer although I am too busy for that right now, and I love good coffee! Gosh, 17896 characters left. I might have to write down some more stories at a later date!
