Marivic's Story

I went to Andres Bonifacio High School (arellano University) in Pasig (now City), Rizal from 1967-1970. As an active student leader, I joined and was elected officer of several campus organization notably the Student Council, President of the Girl Scout Club, Literary Editor of the Great Plebeian and most importantly, I was the first female student who ran as President of the student council and was defeated by Joven Gomez. I took pride in it even if I came out as the vanquished because no other female student in the past has done that. I joined and won oratorical contests and also represented the school in the search for the Mutya Ng Paaralan, a beauty and talent contest from among the high school branches of Arellano Uni iversity. Our high school days was the start of student activism and I remembered that we did not have any senior prom because the government launched its Austerity program that called for non celebration of lavish school parties, etc though we can not call ours lavish where the venue would be at the Pasig Municpal Hall or at the Rizal Capitol Building. I achieved academic excellence from my sophomore and junior years and graduated with hig...Expand for more
h honors and a leadership award. I would say that high school life back then was simple in the absence of modern technology and social media. We enjoyed reviewing by groups before the major exams and likewise enjoyed side trips to Ayala and Cubao which was a far cry from today's world. I still remember some of my close high school friends like Ming Guat Tan, Vangie ( I forgot her last name), Danny Cruz who is now a RTC judge in Pasig and who has helped my family in various legal problems. I can not forget the late Jerry Correa and Freddie Dizon, nice young men. I would love to get in touch with most of my classmates and Batchmate' 70 and plan a Golden Anniversary Reunion in 2020. It will be awesome to be in touch with one another after many, many years. I have not seen any of our mentors after graduation and since i got married in '76 and resided away from Pasig where my heart will always be. I look forward in the future when I feel that I can have more control of my time to do some volunteer teaching in my alma mater and share what I have learned in my travels and residence abroad as well as my experience as a trainor, college professor and administrator.
