Mark's Story
Life
I may just be one of the most fortunate people I know. I left High School wanting to be in radio. In 1977 I was hired at one of the biggest radio stations in New York City at the time, 99X-FM. It was as producer of the Morning show with then host Jay Thomas. The opportunities and experiences I got there were just incredible.
I left there a year and a half later for my first on-air position with the hottest radio station in the Tampa market, Q105FM.
But I missed the NorthEast, and moved on to Washington DC a year later at the NBC Radio stations. Within six months I'd become the assistant Program Direct/Music Director of what soon become the highest billing FM station in the NBC group - WKYS.
A different direction came up when the NBC Televsion division offered me a job behind the scenes (again), with their DC station, WRC-TV. This afforded me many opportunities, from working at the White House to doing NFL Football.
I managed to roll through 17 1/2 years with NBC before the new FOX News Channel hunted me down in 1996 and made me an offer I ...Expand for more
couldn't refuse (thank you Godfather). That year I was able to be part of the launch team for both FOX News Channel and MSNBC.
A decade later I'd transitioned through FOX to become the on-air sidekick for now former White House Press Secretary Tony Snow on the newly launched FOX Talk Radio Network.
In 2006, the new english language channel of Al Jazeera picked me up to be their Studio Sound Supervisor for their Washington DC Bureau just prior to their global launch in November 2006.
I brought my success' and experiences of having previously launch two cable News Networks to Al Jazeera. Over a year later, I sit very pleased that their presentation of the news is the most un-biased of any of the TV networks I've worked for here in America.
May 2010 Update:
I have accepted an increditble professional opportunity from my employer and transferred to their home office in the Middle Eastern country of Qatar.
June 2010:
Leaving in Qatar, maybe not the coolest place to be in the Summer, but by October I understand it starts getting really nice again :}
