Mark's Story
Life
I grew up mostly in Creswell Oregon. That was pretty much accomplished on autopilot. Everyone who knew me during that time would agree I was not an active participant in the direction my upbringing took. I eventually ran away from home when I was 21. I got a job in Kemmerer Wyoming working on part of a natural gas refinery. After that I moved up to ditch digging for a cable TV company in Bolder Colorado. I followed that up by moving back home and joining the Navy. While waiting to go to boot camp I was a Kelly Girl working in light industry. That was fun. Then I went to boot camp in San Diego. I learned three useful things in the three months. The only two I can remember right now are the phonetic alphabet and a really cool way to fold T-shirts. I then went to ET-A school in Great Lakes Illinois. And because I was at the top of my class (really) I followed that by a stint in Fort Gordon Georgia learning Sat Com maintenance. Then it was on to my horrible duty assignment in Wahiawa Hawaii at the largest satellite earth terminal in the world. (IÂm kidding about the horrible.) While there in Hawaii I met and married Shirley T. Shirley celebrated our sixth week anniversary by going out on a date. (Yes, with someone else.) When she did it again the next week I knew it was over. (Duh!) We were divorced after six months and a day, net. I sure learned a lot from that one! Shirley wasnÂt really that bad of person but, I donÂt know, someone has to take the blame.
After I got out of the Navy I moved to Puyallup (pronounced ÂPew-yawl-up) Washington where my dad and brothers Doug and Larry were living. I looked for work as an electronics technician but only half heartedly because IÂd learned in the Navy, and at other jobs, that I donÂt like to do maintenance. I like to do ÂbuildingÂ. I worked for my dad with my brothers in his real-estate work order business for a couple of years. Eventually my dad bowed out and my brothers and I proceeded to ru...Expand for more
n the business into the ground in just about a year.
During that time I had met and started a relationship with the woman who I would eventually marry. She was a real-estate agent that my dad had worked with.
Skipping bunches of semi-relevant stuff here.
Carrie and I moved to Kitsap County to start over. I went to school to learn how to do software work and Carrie got her certificate to be a Montessori preschool teacher. During this eventful time period several important things occurred. I got a job at AT&T wireless doing database work in Kirkland. Carrie and I got married. And that twinkle in my eye started what would eventually turn into the most wonderful thing to happen to Carrie or me.
We were in Bremerton in a house we had fixed up (A LOT) then and decided to sell and move back to Puyallup. It wasnÂt long after that that we brought home our bundle of joy that was Delaney Rose Butler. We were ecstatic and IÂm fairly sure both of our families were too.
I was making decent money being a software tester for some of the best known companies in the world. Carrie had partnered to start a Montessori preschool. After a couple of years her partner was moving away so we bought a new place with room for the school down in Puyallup. We grew to really love the place. That was five years ago. Even though we donÂt want too weÂre moving right now to a place that is much closer to DelaneyÂs school in Federal Way. ItÂs a public school but they so know how to teach children that itÂs very worth the effort to get Delaney there.
Right now IÂm still working in software QA and Carrie is working for another Montessori preschool while striving to gain her bachelors degree. Delaney is just wonderful. And I mean truly wonderful. SheÂs cool, smart, laid back, healthy, fun, funny, kind, and lots lots more. Neither Carrie or I know where it came from.
BTW: Please feel free to contact me. IÂd love to reminisce and re-establish old friendships.
