Mark's Story
LIFE: After high school, I joined the Kentucky Army National Guard 223rd Military Police Co. I went to basic training at Fort Jackson, SC. and my first Military School was Wheel Vehicle Mechanic School. Graduated from there summer of 1975. I went to Military Police School at Fort McClellan, AL. & graduated in August 1976. Worked at Mills Detective Service till March 1977, then I enlisted in the U.S. Army. Went to Advanced Military Police Tactical Training at Fort McClellan, AL. Then I got married to my first wife Peggy, who had 2 kids & then got pregnant with our daughter Amanda, and was stationed at Fort Hood, TX. 502nd MP Co. 2nd Armored Div. While at Fort Hood, I worked road patrol, then Military Police Investigations & AWOL Apprehension. In December 1980, I went to South Korea, the coldest & hottest place I've ever been in my life!! still overseas. I got out of the Army in May 1982, came back home to Louisville, and got DIVORCED!! I worked in private security for a while, then changed jobs and went into the Rent-to-Own business. I got married again in 1986 to Bonnie Willoughby, and had our first daughter Katie in 1989. I managed REMCO for 6 years, then went into the consumer finance business as Assistant Mgr for Fidelity Financial Service & The Money Store Auto Finance. My youngest daughter Ashley was born in July 1995. I got divorced again in 1996, remarried to Kathy in 1998 and moved to Chattanooga, TN. to manage Champion Rent-to-Own for 1 year. They sold their stores to Rentway and I left & moved back home. Went into the transportation field driving a delivery truck, and I live in New Albany, IN. with my wife Kathy. I am an officer with the New Albany VFW Post, a member of the Funeral Detail & Rifle Team, and the Post Color Guard. I am also a former officer with the New Albany Elks Lodge where I served as the Chairman of the Veterans Services Committee and the Chairman of the Veterans Karaoke Idol Committee.
