Mark's Story
After graduation from Monroe I went to "Valley State" (CSUN). I got my B.A. there in '68. I also played basketball there (go Matadors!), and ended up marrying Diana Salzmann, the head songleader. Diana and I have had a happy, 54-year marriage; raised two kids, now 52 (daughter Andrea) and 47 (son Mark). Andrea is a high school teacher in Azusa, and Mark is now living in Madison, Indiana.. We have one granddaughter, Andrea's daughter Elysha, now 31, is currently a field geologist with Arcadis in Irvine. I earned a Master's Degree in Education from SFVSC (CSUN) in '71, and another Master's from the University of LaVerne in School Management in '82. Spanish teacher and basketball coach in a private high school in the San Fernando Valley. My first public school position was in Wasco, CA (near Bakersfield). I worked in the Hacienda La Puente school district (L.A. County, San Gabriel Valley) from '78 to '92, then transferred to the Azusa Unified School District (also San Gabriel Valley). I retired from my position as a director in the Azusa district office in 2005. I am now living in the Channel Islands Harbor area of Oxnard, CA, in a harbor community called "Seabridge". Although there is a down side to being 77, life is better than ever in many ways. I spend a lot of time biking, gardening and reading, without the daily grind of going to work.
