Mark's Story
Life
After my dad became a pastor, we moved from Pacific right before my Freshman year and moved to Callaway County, Missouri. We eventually moved two more times and I went to three different high schools before I graduated from Malden HS in southeast Missouri. I really counted myself lucky to have been able to go to several schools and meet so many people who have enriched my life, but I still wonder what it would have been like to have stayed at Pacific my whole high school career. After HS I went to college at Oakland City University in Indiana. I had a blast in college. I played baseball and was active in Student Government. I graduated with a BA in Biblical Studies and went into youth ministry. I eventually went to work for my alma mater and loved it as well. Before leaving OCU for a ministry position in Branson, MO (in '96), I had become VP for Student Affairs. After a two year stint as Associate Pastor in Malden (200-02) and three years (2002-05) as Client Services Manager for a design firm in Ozark, MO, I currently live in Hollister, MO (near Branson) and became the Community Pastor at the River, a seeker targeted church in Forsyth, MO (near Branson as well) in June of 2005. woman named Valorie (Schanda-graduate of Poplar Bluff HS) (nearly 24 years now). We met at church camp, Camp Allen, the summer before our senior year in HS. Valorie is a professional educator and currently teaches Kindergarten at Blue Eye (MO) Elementary School. We have 4 wonderful children (one son and three daughters): Derek, 23, a film writing graduate of USC-and living in Hollywood pursuing the dream, Krischanda, 20 and a sophomore at OTC, Ashley,17-Junior, and Mattie,15-Freshman at Hollister High (these are as of Feb 2006.) Derek was a National Merit scholar who went to college in California a year early and graduated May 2004. After spending a year in upstate New York, he now lives in Hollywood and pursues his film industry dream. Krischanda is finishing her associate degree at OTC (after spending a semester at Oakland City University in the Fall 2004) and is transferring to Missouri State in the fall of 2006. The other two girls are wonderful students and active in church, sports, and music. Going to volleyball and basketball games to watch them play (and Mattie cheers) and track meets keep us hopping! We are excited to be in the Branson area and especially to be a part of a wonderful church, the River.
