Mark's Story
Life
Nancy and I have been married for 18 years and we have two kids; Matthew, 14 and Lizzie, 10. We live in Saint Louis, MO where I have a career in Information Technology with Pfizer. I stay active by running marathons and riding my mountain & road bicycles. Now that we're closer to home, I'm hoping to get back to Iowa more often. You can find me riding in RAGBRAI most years and going to Gowrie's 4th of July parade.
School
Going to school in Gowrie was really tough. I don't think I ever did fit in but I had a few really good friends who helped me get through. I had a huge crush on someone in our class but I won't say who. I will say that I dreaded school dances -especially the Junior High ones and I spent weeks trying to figure out how to ask that one person to the dance but she never said 'yes'. As for teachers, Mrs. Isom gets the credit in 6th grade for making me into a good student. Mr. Auxier inspired me to work hard and Mr. Sorenson taught me that physics and chemistry could be fun. I sometimes miss those old days but I don't ever want to go back to relive them.

lirt. Of course I stopped being a good student. Iowa Central was fun and I got to go there with my best friends. Going to Iowa State was a blast but it was so much fun that I forgot to study. I actually flunked out for a semester and when they allowed me back in, I barely did well enough to graduate with my Computer Engineering degree. Still, my times in college were great -just not the going to class part!
Workplace
Out of college, I was lucky to get a job at a computer store installing Apples and IBMs in schools. I thought it was a no-where job until my fiance' Nancy landed a job at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. I followed her up there and landed a great job as a computer coordinator for the public school district. From there, I went on to work at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota and then Arizona. Now I'm at Pfizer in Missouri acting as a 'generalist' doing project management, business analysis and miscellaneous application work. It's amazing how one job leads to another and so on. I don't know where this career can go from here, but I'm more interested in family and personal activities than work right now so I'm not too concerned about thatright now.
