Mark's Story
megearyahoocom
I grew up in DuBois Pa and graduated in 1982. I worked after school doing various things since I was 12. After graduation, I worked at the Maple Ave hospital doing nighttime custodial work for a few months, then started working for private contractor, running siding, home remodeling and odds & ends until Feb 1983, when my delayed enlistment finally ended. I went into Air Force basic training at Lackland, then Avionics Navigation Systems school at Keelser. My first assignment was Beale AFB in Cal. I worked on the SR-71 A/B/C, U-2C/R/TR-1, T-38 and KC-135(Q) on navigation and radar systems, in-shop and flightline. I PCS'd to Clark AB RP in 1985, where I worked on the F-4E/G communication, navigation and radar systems (flightline). I was there during the overthrow of Marcos, but left in 1988 before Pinatubo erupted (1991). Had WAAAAYYY to much fun! (TDYs to Korea, Okinawa and Hokkaido, Japan) I brought my wife (Shirlita) and son (Paul) back to the states in Aug 1988 and we settled in at Bergstrom AFB in Austin Tx (now the International airport). I worked on the RF-4C comm/nav/FLR systems (flightline) for the next 4 years. ...Expand for more
Didn't get to deploy for Desert Storm (we were next). We moved to McGuire AFB NJ in May 1992 and I moved into the backshop, repairing com/nav/radar systems for the C-141B. Got a chance to cross-train into computer programming in 1996 and moved to Kelly AFB Tx. Spent my last few years there (at the AFIOC) working on websites, databases and computer systems. I retired from Active Duty in Mar 2003. I was teaching part-time nights at NIT here in San Antonio from 1998-2004. I was picked up on contract to work for the AFIOC as a webmaster/trainer in Oct 2003. I became proficient in several technologies over the years I spent there. I took advantage of another opportunity to move ahead and accepted a Civil Service position (GS-12) at Ft Sam Houston as a webmaster for ARNORTH in Aug 2008, I accepted a promotion (GS-13) in February 2011 and worked as the Senior Graphics Analyst/Data Manager (SharePoint)/DotNetNuke Developer for the Installation Management Command, HQ, for about 6 years. I now lead the G6 Directorate Operations (OPS) team, tracking OPORDS, Cyber issues and direct taskings for the the HQ. Currently working towards retirement #2!
