Mark's Story
After I graduated from high school I graduated from Morningside College in 1981. I worked at the Stockyards in Sioux City for about two years then accepted a job as a hog buyer with IBP. After working there for about five years I took a job as a buyer for John Morrell & Co. At the same time I was working for Morrell I became a foster parent. I liked being a foster parent and wanted to do more to help teenagers with the challenges in their lives. I deceided to return to school and earned a Master's degree in clinical psychology from Minnesota State University-Mankato. After completing the master's program I received an invitation to enroll in a doctoral program. I earned Ph.D. in School Psychology from the University of Utah in 2009. My family life includes a 20 year marriage and four children; two sons and two daughters. ldest daughter, Amanda, is also a student at MSU-M, will graduate from their nursing program in 2013, and is the proud mother of a son born in 2008. My two youngest, Christian and Laura, are still living in Minnesota and attending high school and middle school. In the 30-plus years since graduating from high school I have lived in Iowa, South Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota, Utah and now Colorado. Definitely one of the biggest events in my life since high school graduation and having children was the reconnection with my very first girlfriend, Susan DeMarest. We were sweethearts back in 9th grade at Hayworth Jr. High School. We fell in love (again) and have a relationship that is a dream come true. After I found a job as a school psychologist in Colorado Springs I moved to here in August 2009. Susan and I were married March 19, 2011. We could not be happier.
