Mark's Story
Life
I moved to a new location in July; I serve two churches in Gilmer County, WV, and I am also the director for the United Methodist campus ministry to Glenville State College. In a way, I have come home. I began my college "career" at Glenville in 1980.
Not long after leaving active duty, I joined an AFRES unit...until that turned into a snafu (ya'll know how that goes!). I began seminary in the fall of '97 to earn my Master of Divinity degree at Methodist Theological School in Ohio. While I was in school, I served five churches in central West Virginia for four years. I took a year off from active ministry to work on my Master's....Expand for more
I then served four churches in the eastern panhandle of WV for five years. I completed my master's in May '05, and in June 2008 I was ordained an elder in the United Methodist Church (West Virginia Annual Conference).
I don't miss those long hours on airplanes, but the co-workers were awesome.
For a couple of years, I volunteered with Almost Heaven Habitat for Humanity (a famous Habitat affiliate). I helped build nine houses. I have a garage full of tools, and yes, I do know how to use them! I had the opportunity to serve on the board of directors of the affiliate. That's one way to put my long-unused business degree to work!
