Mark's Story

Workplace Joined the Marine Corps in 1974, and was in the communications field, Radio, Teletype, Crypto. Got out in 1977 Worked for a short time for JC Penny's, back in the day when they still had a sporting good's dept. Then I went into the Photo Copier repair business, managed several local companies’ service departments and finally started one of my own. I sold that business during a divorce, and left that field completely. I then went to work for Montgomery Wards Service department until they filed for bankruptcy, and then went on to work for Sears Service department. I re-married and my wife’s employer Arc Ark asked me to work part time for them supervising their apartment building. And this is where I am now supervising 6 complexes in Arkansas and two more set to come on line in the next two years. These apartments are designed for people with disabilities and they are a true joy to work with. The Arc takes old historic buildings and refurbishes them into apartments; so far we have renovated two old hospital buildings, one in Little Rock and one in Morrilton, Ark. And three school buildings two in Little Rock and one in Hot Springs, Ark. The one in Hot Springs is where Bill Clinton graduated from high school. We are currently in the process of restoring the auditorium of the old high school...Expand for more
for Little Rock, and will start soon on the historic Majestic Hotel; located on bathhouse row in Hot Springs, Ark. Working for the Arc and people with developmental disabilities has been the most rewarding job I have done. Military Joined the Marine Corps in 1974, went through recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, CA, platoon 1123. After graduating from boot camp I attended the Communication Electronics School, which was at that time located at MCRD San Diego also. For those who remember Gomer Pyle USMC from the 60’s, I lived in the barracks shown just to the right side in the opening credits, where the Marines are parading through the archway. After Communication electronic school I was given orders for FMF West Pacific, and went to the Island of Okinawa. There I was assigned to the 3rd FSR which latter changed to 3rd FSSG, and worked in the regimental communication’s center. I worked as a watch supervisor, and message router. After my 13 month deployment was up I rotated back to the United Sates and received orders to report to the 11th Marines for further duty. There I was assigned to the HQ battery regimental communications platoon. I worked as a mobile radio section supervisor. This was my last duty assignment, I was discharged as a Corporal (E-4) honorably in 1977.
