Workplace
Mark LeMieux is an artist with an AssociateÂs Degree in Industrial Design Technology. Most recently he was a Casting Technician with Hasbro, Incorporated. Hasbro is the second largest toy company in the world, which is best known for G.I Joe action figures, and the Star Wars license.
Over the four years Mark was with Hasbro / Kenner Toy Group Mark was an active member in the Research and Development Area. Starting there as a Contractor, and ending there at the position of Assistant Supervisor of the Casting Department. From the earliest days with the company Mark was considered to be one of the most enthusiastic members of the model shop. With a thirst from learning, and the vast knowledge of the products he quickly became a valued employee. After 18 months with Kenner he was hired full-time with Hasbro, which had purchased Kenner. During the first year at Hasbro Mark worked closely with his Supervisor Frank Decker to improve the department. Together they reorganized the work area to make it more efficient. They completely cut outside spending, saving the company money while still meeting deadlines and improving the standard of tooling hard copies. As assistant, Mark also implemented several cost and time effective programs including:
* Updated mold storage records to an Excel spreadsheet to simplify locating projects and where they were stored. This required locating and going through past years records, some of which dated as for back as the 1980Âs, and updating that information (team name, project name and number, number of molds, and where it was stored) into a format where it could be found by number, name, t...Expand for more
eam, etc.
* Reorganized the confidential color formulas for urethane and paint batching. By placing this information on to a more accessible format it saved time and money for not just his department but also the entire model shop (casting, model shop, and sample department). The new format included excel spread sheet, and redundant back ups (a CD Rom kept by management, and a three ring binder kept in the batching area).
* Researched, improved and implemented a reusable casting technique using urethane clay up boxes with locking locators and break apart walls. This process helped not only to save money and time, but shop supplies. This successful improvement help to decrease the project turn around time by as much as three days.
While there, Mark also had an opportunity to grow as an artist, learning all he could about sculpture, and design. He sculpted over 30 different portraits, several different sets of hands (including articulated hands), and many different accessories for 12Â action figures. Also design several toy lines and board games, some of which are being actively pursued by Hasbro at the present.
Marks strengths are in the areas of creative problem solving and the artistic skills of illustration, sculpture and acting. One example of creative problem solving happened before achieving full time employment at Hasbro. He spent several months with Stumps Print Company / Shindigz.com as Product Designer and Manager of Prototyping. In the busy season he managed five builders and three designers. While there he helped to design, build and cost products for mass production, seeking cost effect but suitable building material for the Prom, Homecoming and party kits. He also helped to set up photo shoot of these products for catalog purposes, and dealt directly with customer complaints to help improve older kits and make them more functional.
Mark has an AssociateÂs Degree in Industrial Design Technology from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, where he was an HonorÂs Graduate. He is also the owner and President of a freelance art company entitled Platypus Productions, that specializes in sculpture and design work in the toy industry. He is married and has three children.
