Mark's Story

After HS I enlisted in the National Guard because I was unsure of my future. After basic training I realized that the only way to get ahead was to continue on with my education. After graduation from WSU, I remained in the greater Eastside area. My last Eastside home was in Issaquah for 20 years which was a great location. After retirement I sold the home in Issaquah and downsized to a house in the Madison Park neighborhood of Seattle. Must admit that it is different to now call liberal Seattle home after being an Eastsider all of my life. Does this reveal a little about my political perspective? My son Jason and his wife continue to live in Issaquah and have three wonderful children. Jason was fortunate enough to get involved in technology at an early age. I have really enjoyed being apart of their lives and watching each of them grow into great people. My five siblings also remained in the greater Seattle area which has made for great family gatherings. As for my career, I became a manager with King County where I worked for almost 35 yrs and then as a second job I invested in real-estate. I have been lucky enough to retire at 62 and take advantage of what the next chapter of life has in store for me. On the personal side, I had to deal with the difficulty of a divorce. With that said I was lucky enough to find a great woman in which we are completely compa...Expand for more
tible and enjoy life. My younger sister retired a number of years before I did and purchased a home in Arizona which made me a little jealous. I liked the resort like community where she purchased her home and so a few years prior to my retirement I also purchased a home in the same community. So we now own a home on a golf course in Sun Lakes, Arizona where we enjoy the sun in the winter and a home in Seattle where we can enjoy the beautiful NW summers. It is nice to be able to travel back and forth for all the important events. I feel very fortunate to be at this stage of life with the freedoms and benefits of retirement. In HS this chapter of life seemed so far away with both the war and the shaky economy that we had as we graduated from HS. I am now enjoying the roll as a grandfather and taking up golf as well as traveling. (had no idea a little ball could be so frustrating!) I plan to take flying lessons in order to get a pilots license. So many things on the bucket list yet to do. Must admit that when I think of BHS, I think of Miss Hardy with her dogs out in the car which would never happen today. I also remember before I got a car walking home after school rather than wait for the bus. Update 6/2022 We sold our Broadmoor house in Seattle and built a replacement in Suncadia Resort near Clè Elum. We still split our time between Arizona and Washington.
