Mark's Story
I graduated from high school a quarter early and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After Electronics Technician training, I was fortunate to spend two years stationed in Naples, Italy, followed by two years aboard the USNS H. H. Hess, which allowed me to see much of the world.
After leaving the Navy, I worked for two years in the engineering lab at Harris RF Communications in Rochester, New York. During that time I bought my first computer and discovered the career I was truly meant for.
I went on to study Computer Science at Michigan Technological University and eventually worked for the university performing Unix systems administration. While there I married, and we had two wonderful...Expand for more

I later moved to HealthPartners in Minneapolis as a systems administrator and was eventually promoted to supervise the Unix Administration team—helped along by the fact that my boss decided to quit at just the right time.
After my divorce in 2009, I relocated to Scottsdale, Arizona, in 2011. I married Jill Ponce in 2013, and together we’re enjoying life as empty nesters with five children between us and two grandchildren.
In 2014 I transitioned into Information Security and eventually became Chief Information Security Officer at my company. These days, Jill and I are looking ahead to retirement and designing our future home on a hilltop in Rio Verde, Arizona.
