Mark's Story
After graduating from Highland Park, I toured various Kansas institutes of higher learning, insisting on taking classes in which I was interested, instead of the required classes. After miscalculating, I was forced to graduate from Washburn University. A master¿s degree was acquired later from some other University.
In my early career (?), I have sold stuff, including cars, made pizza, ran a photography studio and any number of things that showed a complete misunderstanding of my own basic personality.
Meeting Kathleen Morrow was the turning point for me and directly led to me ¿getting my act together¿. We¿ve been married for years (no kids). Kathleen performs on stage with the Skamania Performance Arts Foundation as well as with Whiskey Flats (see below). We travel a bunch.
We moved to Stevenson, Washington where I¿ve taught Band and a few other subjects to sixth through twelfth graders...Expand for more
since 1986. Kathleen is a science teacher in the same district and serves on the Stevenson City council.
I¿m an active performer both conducting and playing trumpet and bagpipes and other Celtic instruments mostly in the Portland/Vancouver metro area. My regular groups include F. Scott Fedora (An early jazz group) Eclectic Brass (a brass quintet) Whiskey Flats Brass Band (a group dedicated to historic band performances of the 19th century.) and The McMulligans (a group of Celtic performers).
Stevenson is located in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area 45 miles from Portland. We have a nationally known brew pub called Walking Man that features bagpipes on many Saturday¿s throughout the year. If I¿m getting paid in beer it better be great beer and within walking distance of my bed and it is.
