Mark's Story
The semi-short version? Here goes:
- Born on Travis AFB, Fairfield, CA
- Grew up in Strategic Air Command, as a result lived all over the country and attended 11 schools in 12 years (3rd grade in three states; 6th grade in two states; two junior highs; two senior highs)
- Had the great fortune of being a member of the Class of '72 at Red River HS, Grand Forks, the first class scheduled to do all three years in the new school
- AH, but...
- Transferred from Grand Forks AFB to Davis-Monthan AFB, Tucson, in Jun 70
- Graduated Catalina High School Jun 72 (although I still consider Red River as my "other" class of '72)
- Second alternate to the USAF Academy, didn't get selected, didn't get picked for Army or Air Force ROTC at UofA. Literally,"Okay, where's the nearest school that has Navy ROTC?"
- Graduated University of New Mexico May 76, commissioned into the US Navy and assigned to an A-6 squadron at NAS Whidbey Island, WA
- Oct 76-Dec 77 - Naval Flight Officer training, NAS Pensacola, FL
- Dec 77-Apr 79, Attack Squadron 42, NAS OCeana, VA
- Apr 79-May 81, USS Nashville (LPD-13); onboard long enough to do one Med/IO cruise, during the Iran Hostage Crisis, oh the stories I could tell about the various ports we visited but I'm not sure the statute of limitations has expired...
- May 81-May 84 - Satellite Launch Officer/Asst Operations Officer, Navy Astronautics Group, Point Mugu, CA. Doggoned if I didn't actually get to launch a rocket w/satellite out of Vandenberg AFB...
- May 84-Nov 86 - Instructor, Fleet Intelligence Training Center, Pacific, NTC San Diego, CA
- Aug 86, married the sister of one o...Expand for more

- Feb 00 - Fired from a job for the first time in my life (apparently the owner/publisher and I had some differences of opinion over the future of the SVR). Wound up working at Ace Hardware and doing grounds maintenance at a local hospital
- Nov 00 - Tech writer, Entertainment Business Unit, Microsoft Corporation, Redmond, WA
