Mark's Story
Life
I can't believe it's almost 12 years since I left teaching in CI. I have wonderful memories and am very grateful to all my former students. I am very proud of you. I am living in Florida with Linda and loving it! I still miss teaching and visit schools and libraries as an author. I am proud I was Lake County's Childrens Author of the Year and my Rockhound Mysteries won the Teachers Choice Award from Learning Mag.(2001), and are under contract to a television producer. (See amazon.com or marknewhousebooks.com). My latest book, YOU NEVER SEE FAT VAMPIRES is a story about bullying and won FIRST PRIZE in the Florida Writers Association YA Fiction Competition in 2010. Several of my books and short stories have won various awards. My short story, "The Warehouse", about a girl during the Holocaust, was Editors Choice in a national contest and was published in the Journeys Anthologies. I served as a contributor (3 stories each) and Editor-in-Chief of HOLIDAY HELPINGS and THE STORY SHOP, with short stories and poems for children and families to share, all profits donated to children's charities. I love writing and am tryin...Expand for more
g to keep my teaching ideas alive by putting them in books that I hope will help other teachers and children. I love hearing from my former students and hope you will let me know all about you. Keep going for "the tie"! Don't remember? Email me and I'll send you a copy to bring back my most 'awful' joke. Hint: I started every year with this one! Some retirement! LOL
School
I loved teaching and doing crazy projects with thousands of wonderful students for more than thirty years. Class plays, life-size mummies, crazy trials and board games were things I enjoyed. I hated retiring so I taught college- helping to train new teachers. I always loved writing and my Rockhound Science Mysteries, short, funny mysteries, children can solve, (earthkidspublishing.com)were published and received several awards (Teachers Choice-Learning 2001). I still teach, visiting schools as an author and also teaching teachers my essay writing system. I am married and have two great sons and one insane dog. I still care about my former students and hope they remember me as both crazy (in a good way) and someone who cared. I hope they are happy.
