As a child growing up in Lawrence, Ma, I loved Television, Film and music. It wasn't until I was about 13 that I wanted to move to California be a screenwriter/creator/actor. I could tell you every detail about my past growing up since the age of 5 in Kindergarten at the Rollins School in Lawrence, Mass, and people I went to school with would be impressed because I'd bring back memories they had completely forgotten about since it was so long ago (and since many I went to school with have claimed they forgot their past times in schools due to poor memories or drug/alcohol use). Yes, my memory goes all the way back to 1987. It is photographic sometimes, as I am good with remembering lines, spellings of words, and definitions of words once I study them after a few times. You can say, those were my best areas in school over the years! I attended the Rollins School in Lawrence, Mass from 1987-1993, Holy Trinity School from 1993-1996, and Central Catholic High School from 1996-2000. During elementary and middle school, my grades were pretty decent. In the Rollins I was always well behaved, teacher's always trusted me, and I always got excellent conduct reports. My strongest subjects overall were Spelling and Reading. Math was strong for me until the completion of 3rd grade. Once 4th grade History/Science/Math came about, courses became harder for me, but I always managed to get by with grades that were decent overall, never failed anything, and was never a bother to my teacher's because I was always well behaved, had a lot of school spirit, and took pride in my work. In my final month at the Rollins School, I was student of the month for June of 1993. The Rollins was my favorite school because the teachers always disciplined the mis-behaved students. We also did a fairly large amount of arts and crafts and had many talent shows and functions in the auditorium. My 1st through 5th grade teachers were all amazing, but Mrs. Nadeau, Mrs. Salvo, and Mrs. Krawiec in my last 3 years, were equally my favorite teachers there. Mrs. Krawiec always made everything fun and a song and dance, and I was always placed center stage constantly at assemblies and talent shows because of the energy and enthusiasm and passion I had for performing. When I went to middle school at Holy Trinity I was usually one of the top spellers in my class, always worked independently on projects, and would always be selected as a student of the month each year for my good behavior, or place in the science fairs in some way. Holy Trinity was a school that did a lot of creative projects up until the Sisters left the school in 1994, then that area lacked severely my last 2 yeas there, as the school was mostly just about academics and not the arts. My favorite teachers, however, were Mrs. Fillipon, Mrs. Autieri and Mrs. Kurto. In my first year there, I was the lead in my class presentation for Christmas as Santa Claus, but after that point, the school went in a whole new direction and dropped performing and assemblies with songs and dances after 1993. This is something I regret about a Catholic education in Elementary and Middle School, the schools just made use of the space, they didn't have big stages like the newer public schools did. It could have helped me a lot if it was more professional with the arts, but both the Rollins and Holy Trinity were smallest of small and lacked very much in amenities for students. In 8th grade I studied very much because I wanted to get into Central Catholic. It was a complete waste as the school was so great to relatives who went there in the 1980s, when I got in, all my class did as well who applied. I was the top 3rd highest average of all the guys in my class, and the top 2 male students didn't go to CCHS. So in the end, I was highest average guy from my middle school who got into CCHS. Made no sense as what followed and crushed me completely...In Holy Trinity I won every award given in both 7th and 8th grade. I was a student of the month, placed in the science fair both years, was top speller from my class in BOTH 6th and 8th grade, and won the school essay contest in 8th grade. Such a waste, as when I went to CCHS, nobody thought how I did in middle school, it was all "Mark is so dumb!/a bad writer/worst at science!" In Central Catholic High School, my decent grades were a different story. The more studying I did, or projects I made, especially in the area of Science, I still couldn't get above "C" level in Science classes, while the majority got B's who were sportsplayers or girls. This would usually kill my average as I was always in level 3 classes which were pretty much easiest, but GPA wise, counted for less. Math was always hard for me, especially in High School, and I had lost any interest in History classes by the time I started Central, but never completely failed a class for the year. But both Religion and English classes, which were always my strongest, tended to be C+ or C in the end. Some of my favorite teachers at Central Catholic were Mr. Warren Hayes, Mr. Ronald Russo, Mr. John Rich, Mr. Kristopher Calnan, Mr. Joseph Welch, Coach A.,Mr. Vincent Pastore, Mr. Clayton Steininger, Mr. James O'Niel, and Mr. Daniel Demers even Mr. Robert Benedetto, as hard a grader he was, knew how to teach Science unlike my other two teachers there. Just as teachers, they were very easy to talk to and even though some of them taught subjects I had it tough in, they were some of the best teachers I had because they were always welcoming of every student to their classes or welcoming to students even if they didn't have them for classes. Mr. Jowett was the worst teacher I ever had or experienced. It was like a movie or something or nightmare. Not only did he not know how to teach Biology, he could have cared less I had relatives who were his personal friends AND who went to CCHS with him. He used to target me in class, I was always a failure to him and it hurt how much work I put in middle school to get into this school to end up with a teacher who didn't know how to teach. All notes I took, nothing I took was on the tests, it was all from the books. It was as if we only had to read the books and not even attend class. I ended up going to summerschool, of course, getting all 100s and the highest grade out of 8 or so students, so my F was turned into a C+ for the year. Looking back, I should have transferred out of the school at this point, but I had guts. I never gave up. About several dozen transferred out, including a few guys from Holy Trinity, the rest of us who stayed were at the bottom of our class based on average. With me, that was not a good thing as I was a B student, not a C one. I had a tough time in all my schooling, no matter what school it was, based on my looks. I was never perfect, to the guys or the girls. I was mocked for many flaws and how my parents made me. I couldn't help being me. If it wasn't my eyebrows it was my dark circles, if not those it was my cowlick, if not that my fat body. Someone always had to push me down for the many flaws I had. And it wasn't just that, it connected to my grades, too. I was a hard working, independent student, and the bad kids would bash me publicly, never get in trouble, and the teachers when they had to throw C's to students, even when I had all grades decent for honor roll, they had to screw my chances, and then those students who mocked me for my looks or my never stopping effort for nothing in the end, got their way with me and mocked me more. This is pretty much the biggest flaw in all my education. It got worse in each school, but Central it was uncontrollable when I was thrown C's and had B work in the easiest classes (Science, English, and at times, Religion)... For college, I started out at Northern Essex, as my grades were low in Central, so once I got decent "B" and better grades at NECCO, I transferred to Merrimack College. I was there from 2001-2005 and majored in English. I worked at McDonald's throughout high school and worked my way up to a shift manager before leaving to go to college in 2000. From middle school, but more in high school and college until May of 2003 I was always a heavy guy growing up, and between 2003-2004, I lost a total of 150 pounds an...Expand for more
