Mark's Story
Grrrr...is it 2012 yet? 2011 has been an utter disaster. Spent the first two months sick, have spent the rest of this year injured. Late February, I broke my right foot (Lisfranc fracture), had is misdiagnosed twice before being correctly diagnosed mid-May (really, does anybody do x-rays anymore?). Then, just as I had recovered, I broke the big toe on the same damn foot. So, I need to leave the Pacific Northwest. I love it here, but it doesn't love me back, so...moving back to Denver in February 2012. And of course as I end up getting a lot of time to grind it out online, the ridiculous nannies at DOJ shut down online poker. So, have been bored stiff the last 4 months, looking forward to going back to work (even though I hate my job) in early October (barring some OTHER unforseen circumstance).
So...other than that, have lived in five states (two of them, MS & TX, only on a temporary basis...one thanks to the USAF, the other thanks to the USAF, then again thanks to the ex...), tried the college thing, didn't work out (wasn't ready, now that I am, it's just so damn expensive), tried the military thing, didn't work out (wasn't ready), tried the marriage thing, didn't work out (wasn't ready), and all by the age of 28. I'm not saying that any of these were COMPLETELY my fault, but I'm not saying that they WEREN'T, either.
Have VISITED 20 states overnight, another 6, DC, and Tijuana by traveling thru/into and another 4 via airports I've changed planes in...lol), have been to games at 8 currently standing MLB ballparks (2 that no longer exist, and 1..Qualcomm...that is no longer a baseball stadium) and have a goal of hitting all 30. Oh...and have played cards in 8 states in 23 cardrooms in 14 cities. So, yes, I am kind of a poker degen (I'm gonna be famous someday!).
Also have been to uncountable concerts in 14 venues in 3 states (including Red Rocks...the best place to see a concert...EVER!). So yes,...Expand for more
I'm as much of a music degen as I always have been.
Anyway, I'm on Twitter, but I guess they won't let me post my handle (which is the band Pink Floyd without the vowels and with the last two numbers of my birth year, which was 1968) but not on Facebook (have been holding out for whatever reason, besides Facebook is so 2008).
I always wanted to be a baseball player when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a dumb idea. As it turns out, they were right.
I like to blow off steam by reading, watching baseball on TV, playing cards, games on the computer, or listening to music at incredibly loud volumes.
Obsessions? Baseball. poker, music, politics, reading, movies.
I probably would be considered a very casual dresser. Around the house, I'm usually in cargo shorts/concert (or poker) t-shirt, and more of the same when I go out (if the weather is nice). If it's chilly, mainly cargo pants or Levi's and a hoodie, during rainy weather (hey, I AM in Portland, after all), usually a raincoat over everything, but when the occasion warrants it, I clean up well.
Was quarterly champion in consecutive quarters for a local bar poker league in Denver in Spring & Summer 2009, so far the only trophies, but look for me on your TV sometime soon. :o)
If I had everything to do over, I would have done better in school, gotten a scholarship and a degree. Unbelievable how NOT having one makes things so much harder.
In 10 years, I hope to be semi-retired. I'm going to get there by my poker playing. Or writing a book.
If I were to attend my high school reunion, I think what would surprise everyone is how I am so much different physically, but still a big kid mentally (albeit wiser and with a lot more cynicism...but then, that's adulthood, right?).
My first job was at Camelot Golfland, where I got paid next to nothing. What I remember most about it is going out drinking after work (or staying and drinking).
