Mark's Story
Life
Born in Brooklyn and lived on Herkimer Street, AKA, Bed Sty, for the first 2 years of my life. Moved to Springfield Gardens, Queens. Went to Brooklyn Tech, and then on to LIU., Parents bought property in Southampton in 55. I caddied at National Golf Links for 6 years. Spent my summers in the Hamptons till 72. Met some really great people. Saw the Rascals play at the Barge. Went to the Criuser club on the canal, the OBI in hampton Bays. Parents retired and still live there. Joined the Navy in 66 and was discharged 1970. Went to work for Graybar Electric. Continued going to CW Post at night and on weekends. VA money ran out and I fell short of ny BA by 12 credits. Retired from Graybar July 2002. started my own company, which is something for me to do while I watch my Cho...Expand for more
colate Lab Daisy. Still maintain contact with guys from the Navy, the "Old" neighborhood and other groups. I boat in my time of leisure I currently live in East Islip, NY, 1 mile from the bay and 30 minutes by boat to the ocean. Time to walk the dog.
Military
ENLISTED IN THE NAVY, APRIL 1966. FIRST DUTY STATION OUT OF BOOT WAS THE USS LINDENWALD, LSD-6 OUT OF BRIDGEPORT ,CT. COULDN'T FIND THE BOAT, IN FACT A NAVY SHIP HAD NOT BEEN TO BRIDGEPORT SINCE WW II. BUPERS MADE A MISTAKE, SHIP WAS IN LITTLE CREEK, VA. TYRANSFEREED TO TRAVERSE CTY. LST-1160 IN 1968, AND FINAL SHIP WAS NEWPORT LST 1170 IN OCTOBER 69. DISCHARGED IN JANUARY 1970 AS A DC2. CRUISES CONSISTED OF SEVERAL CARRIBEAN CRUISES, GITMO 5 TIMES, BERMUDA AND THE FAMOUS MED CRUISE. I STILL REMEMBER BARCELONIA VIVIDLY.
