Mark's Story

I'm not sure many people would remember me. I was the oldest of the Valesey clan (there was and still are 9 of us). I quit school in my senior year to join the Air Force in 1969 and was in until 1973. I was in the cold war in Europe (West Germany at the time)and cosidered myself lucky to have been only there and not in Viet Nam. I did get an equivilency diploma while I was in the military. After getting out and deciding what to do I went to college on the GI Bill and did well. I married my college sweetheart in 1978 after graduating from SUNY Oswego. Interesting, she is an immigrant from Germany, but, I did not meet her there. We both headed for Norfolk, VA to teach high school, middle school and some college classes. We got our MS degrees from Old Dominion University in 1981. We moved to Columbus, OH. Two things happened there. My wife got her PhD, yes, it is Dr and Mr :-), and my daughter Michelle was born there. We moved to Maryland on 1984 and stayed for 18 years while my daughter grew up. Since 2002 we've lived in Medford, NJ. My wife and I have been married for 33 years and hope to share many more. My daughter is now grown and working as a nurse in Philadelphia, PA. Seems like I held her in my arms and looked into her newborn eyes only yesterday. We are very proud of her. Work: I've driven a tractor trailer right after the Air Force, taught high school, taught for the Navy aboard ship (interesting when your teaching aid, an engine, falls overboard in a storm), worked in several dealerships for heav...Expand for more
y truck and car as a technician and manager, taught college in Virginia, worked for Ford Motor Company as a field engineer and on-site trainer for fleets in the Northeast (North Carolina to Maine out to Ohio and sometimes other states), been a director of education for a small company, the chair for automotive at SUNY Farmingdale and am now an adjunct professor in the automotive departments at Camden County College in NJ and the Community College of Philadelphia Hobbies: Cars of course, fishing, hiking on the Appalachian Trail (have also voluteered to work on the AT in Maine, Pennsylvannia, New York, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia). I ran a few ultra-marathons a several years ago, but, have gotten lazy over the last few years. My wife, Brigitte and I are into riding bicylcles now. We've participated in several century rides in the last few years. My daughter competed in a triathalon in Philadelphia in June 2009. This ended up as an Iron Man in Idaho in 2011. She finished. Wow! She confided in me that she made a wrong turn on the Marathon portion of the competition and actually ran an extra mile. She's actually an excellent athelete (competes at the top 2% of the field) and has competed around the country. She's planning on getting married in Philadelphia on June 2, 2012. No grandchildren, yet. I do have 15 nieces and nephews, and, one grand niece and grand nephew, wow! Stop by and say hi if you get a chance. However, I may be one of those people who were in the background and you may not remember. PEACE!
