School Days
I went to Garfield Elementary, Miller Intermediate, South Houston High and 2 years at San Jacinto Jr College in Pasadena.
Military and Beyond
I enlisted in the Navy in 1985, and served 20 years. I retired out of an F-18 squadron, VFA-125 at Naval Air Station, Lemoore, California in June 2005. I started my Turquoise business, Turquoise Highway, in March 2006. I spend much of my time involved in lapidary, cutting and polishing turquoise. I sell turquoise stones and jewelry online and at Gem and Mineral Shows.
I moved from California to Colorado in 2012. As you can see by my pictures I used to raise Pomeranians. My Pom business was called Pumpkin Poms. I just have 2 cats now.
Military
I was an aircraft electrician and spent most of my Navy career out on the west coast. My sea duty tours included deployments on 4 different aircraft carriers, the USS Ranger, USS Abraham Lincoln, USS Kitty Hawk and the USS Carl Vinson. I did 5 Persian Gulf cruises and 4 Western Pacific cruises, and also spent 2 years on an island in the middle of the Indian Ocean called Diego Garcia. I retired out of an F-18 squadron, VFA-125 at Naval Air Station Lemoore, California in June 2005 as an Aviation Electrician First Class, Aviation Warfare Specialist.
One of the greatest highlights of my Navy career was doing my ...Expand for more
reinlistment ceremony at the USS Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii in April, 1997.
On my last cruise, in 2003, I was in an F-18 squadron, VFA-146 on the USS Carl Vinson. We sailed past the western Pacific island of Iwo Jima. It was just a small grassy island, hard to imagine such a massive battle occurred there.
I think the coolest place I ever visited was the Temple of the Emerald Buddha in Bangkok Thailand.
I was always up on the flight deck whenever we pulled into Pearl Harbor, looking down at the ships sunken there along "Battleship Row", where they were pierside. You can see the outlines of the ships rather well. Oil still rises to the surface from them to this day.
Although I visited Japan, Okinawa, South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Australia, Singapore, The Philippines, Guam, Diego Garcia, Crete, Naples, Rota, Spain, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates and Canada, my favorite place will always be Pearl Harbor, Honolulu, Hawaii. Got lucky enough to go there many times.
In the last few years, I have lost 2 good friends from South Houston, Glenn David McMullen, Class of 81 and Matthew James Riley, class of 82. I'll always remember the good times I spent with them.
I'm proud to have graduated from South Houston High School.
Always a Trojan!
