Marks's Story
Life
After high school, I went to college in Memphis at Southwestern at Memphis (now Rhodes College). I graduated with a BA in History with the expectation of teaching. Didn't happen. I became involved in event production, producing a variety of small and large indoor and outdoor events. I did that until 1990, when I moved to San Antonio Texas to begin what has eneded up being an unexpected career...operating and restoring historic venues.
I worked at the Majestic Theatre in San Antonio until 1992, when I moved to New Orleans to run the historic Saenger Theatre. I went back to San Antonio in 1998 for a couple of years, before moving to the northeast. I moved to Baltimore for a year and worked to program 16 venues around the country. unity so I moved to New York for 18 months to become Vice President of Operations for the Theatre Management Division of Clear Channel Entertainment. I returned to Baltimore to oversee final construction of the France-Merrick Performing Arts Center, which I then operated for 4 years. In February of 2008 I am starting a new job as Senior Vice President and Managing Director/Las Vegas for a company called BASE Entertainment.
In this new role, I will be responsible for all of the company's business in Las Vegas, which includes producing the on-going Phantom - The Las Vegas Spectacular, Stomp Out Loud and Defending the Caveman, as well as presenting Wayne Brady, David Spade (periodically) and operating two venues at the new Planet Hollywood Casino and Resort.
