Marlene's Story
Life
We moved to Texas in 1963 and have made our home here ever since. We have three sons that also live in this area. On June 14, 2001, our youngest son, James Marlin, died of a massive heart attack. He was 43 years old. He was an amazing young man and will be missed by the entire family. We have three living grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and two more on the way. I retired after 21 years with the same company in 1997, then was called back to work temporary, which lasted almost 6 (six) years. I may be retiring again soon. On March 15, 2005 Ray was diagnosed with lung cancer. He did have surgery and had 1/3 of his left lung removed along with the cancerous mass. Hopefully all the cancer was removed and he will make a full recovery. After over 52 years together it is impossible to imagine life without him. He is currently at home recovering from the surgery. On October 16, 2005 we were happy to have our 6th Great-grandchild come into the world. We now have 3 boys and 3 girls. I did finally retire from all work outside the home last April. Ray's cancer has now gone into his spine and hip so working would be impossible for me. He is pretty much bed-fast and the prognosis does not look good. He has lost...Expand for more
a lot of weight and sleeps about 20 out of 24 hours a day. We know that all of this is in God's hands, so our faith keeps us strong.
On January 24, 2006, the love of my life went to his heavenly home. He had been confined to his bed 24/7 for the last 5 months, so now he is finally free and flying high. We would have celebrated our 53rd wedding anniversary on February 4, 2006. I miss him with all of my heart but am happy that he is now pain free and can dance in heaven. My problem is going to be learning how to live without him. He was truly my soul-mate.
On February 15, 2008 I went back to work. I found that it was very lonly without Ray here with me. I kept busy with my church activities and family and friends, but had too much time on my hands. I finally found a company that was willing to hire an old woman. It is a small office and I have learned a lot in the past year. It keeps my mind active and I have really enjoyed working there. The extra money helps too.
Well, I am becoming a professional retiree. I retired again (3rd time) the end of December 2010. I really enjoyed working but found I was really tired and decided to hang it up again. I am doing fine, keeping busy with church and family activities.
