Marlene's Story
School
My fondest memories of PS 27 were:
Putting on skits and plays with Charlie Rossi as my leading man. We started this in Miss Sasso's kindergarten with me as "Zsa Zsa" and him as the butler/prince/king/etc. and, I think, our final effort was St. George & the Dragon in 8th grade.
Hanging out with Lois Gregory and Linda Borer and taking dance lessons with them. I used to look in the dance room mirror and looked like a giant next to them!
Hanging out with Ruthie Paretsky, Lilli-Ann Albanese, Karen Oliver, Ellen Perzan, Joanne Rotunda.
Mr Nill hanging out on the fire escape with me while he smoked a butt and talked about profound stuff.
Mrs. Brown getting us all excited about squirrel's (Why are your cheeks so fat, please ...Expand for more
squirrel tell me that............)
Me wearing a "I hate Elvis' button to school and Mr. Spencer telling me to take it off.
VFW dances on Fridays. Doing my thing on the dance floor. Bernice Mastrioani & me shaking our pubescent booties.
Being in "the Guards". Charlie McLeer being the main man.
Richard Nadjarian sitting next to me in Orchestra playing the sax ( I think).
Learning alot about dinosaurs from Alfred Ashton
College
BA in Social Work from Dowling College.
Going to school and running home to raise my 2 kids.
MSW, SUNY at Sony Brook.
The school showed no mercy. Sleeping 4 hours a night while working full-time, raising kids and studying/writing papers. Feeling like Rocky after the big fight when I finally finished.
