Marna's Story
In School
I was the class clown, and always in trouble. I think I had my very own personalized chair in the office. If I wasn't harassing Linda Hinds the school secretary I was terrorizing George Holmgren or Ed Baker. I also worked very hard in my senior year not to be in school -- I think by law we were required to attend 150 days of the school to graduate and I believe I attended exactly 150 days. High School wasn't the best time for me -- I didn't feel I fit in and pretty much wanted it over. I know I didn't apply myself at all, and got by -- by the skin of my teeth. I did however have a few teachers who I loved dearly -- Maryanne Raines was one, tough as nails but amazing. I also had a soft spot for Toni Smith and our CWP teacher who's name escapes me.
Never in a million years would I have thought then as I do now, how important an education is, it was my ticket literally ...Expand for more
to freedom.
In College -
I thought earning my bachelors degree was going to kill me. What was I thinking when I comtemplated entering a Masters Program at the age of 42?
I always wanted to be a performer of sorts or an airline attendant when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a stupid idea. As it turns out, they were wrong, I still want to be a rock star but now I am lead my own company in the Nonprofit sector..
Now I walk, read, cook, or entertain with friends.
If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have to be the boss, have a clear vision of what needs to be done, and a great team to be able to deal with the day-to-day.
My hero is my son. end of story.
The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Bill Johansen, because I'd like to say hello and see how he is. He was my first love. You always carry a special feeling for your first love..
