Marque's Story
Life
Hi there! Life is good for me: After DCHS, I went to UAM as a vocal music major, worked at Serv-a-Burger (my family's restaurant...remember that old place??) and also worked at various churches leading the music on a part-time basis. I got married in '79 at 19 (I divorced 25 years later). I did a lot of performing at UAM and won a few singing competitions. I began pursuing a professional singing career in opera and was doing pretty well, but after my dad (my big financial backer for a singing career!) died, I laid all that aside and began teaching school in Stuttgart. I had the degree but no money!!! After 3 years of that, I left teaching and went into full-time church work (music) and have been doing that ever since. I have continued to do a lot of singing on the so-called "professional" level in Arkansas, but that's not saying much. My interest in singing professionally never really left me, so in 1998 I went back to school (at UCA in Conway) to finish up my Master's Degree in Vocal Performance. I did a lot of performing there and, once again, I loved it! So I began to pursue that old dream of performing once again, to the extent that I spent the month of October 2000 in Germany auditioning for opera agencies. I was offered a professional singing contract in Bonn, Germany but I turned it down. I'm going to wait a little longer to see if any other (better) offers turn up. Probably nothing will happen, but It's sure been exciting. I always wondered what would happen if I...Expand for more
had really tried for that singing career...so I gave it a try. That way, I won't be driving myself crazy for the next 40 years wondering, "what if..." At least now I can know that I could have made it!!
After 11 years at a church in Prattsville, AR and 4 years at a church in Searcy, AR I moved to a new church in Benton where I've now been for about 4 years. I teach several voice students privately and have done some teaching and performing at UCA too. I'm currently singing with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra Singers. Enough about me! I'd love to hear from you!!!! Marque
Wow....I really sounded full of myself back then in 2005. Much has happened since then to shape my life. Here's a peek:
After getting my 3 daughters off to college, I met Kelly, whom I dated for a year and a half. We then married in June 2011. Life was good again. Less than 2 years later, Kelly died.
I moved to Mountain View, AR 5 months later and lived there 3 years and served in a wonderful church as Worship Pastor. While there I met Linda. A couple of years later we married. Less than a year later we moved back to Benton, where I had served at a church for 12 years before moving to Mountain View.
I am at a different church in Benton than I was before. Spring Creek is a wonderful church filled with the best people in the world. I love the Lord and love serving Him through the area of music. That's who I am: A child of God. A sinner saved by grace. I am a husband, a father, & grandfather. And a musician.
