Marshall's Story
During what would have been my senior year at Klondike my family went abroad; 6 months in England and 6 months in Germany. That was an amusing experience; sitting in a classroom in Germany and not understanding a word. On returning to the States I attended The Massachusetts Institute of Technology majoring in physics. I flunked the physics filter course and retook the course and again did badly. . I was told by the Physics Department chair that they would pass me if I promised not to seek employment as a physicist. After graduating from MIT I attended a new program in Biophysics at Penn State. There I graduated as their serial number 1 PhD.. During this period I got to watch my then true love leave me on a bus forever. llaboration with Clyde Hutchison which lasted for about 30 years. I also married Cora Jean just after moving to NC in 1979. Clyde and I were both hired into the Microbiology Department at the University of North Carolina. I worked there for 43 years during which Clyde and I did some ground breaking research. In 2013 I left the Department as I was unfunded and the Department couldn't cope with me self-funding my new research obsession. To qualify for translational research space at UNC I formed a startup company called Innatrix. I have three employees and we are developing a new technology to create very potent antibodies to targets of interest. We expect to have finished the experiments that would qualify us for external funding by mid-April 2018. Cora Jean and I moved to a continuing care retirement community in early February 2018. Both of us seem healthy and we are both having enormous amounts of fun.
