Martha's Story
Life
I am currently living in Elkhart, IN. My address is 222 State St., Elkhart, IN 46516. We have lived in our current house for almost 13 years.
Last year my husband and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary. We have three daughters. Rachel, the oldest, is 18 years old and will graduate from high school this year (2007). Jessica is 15 (going on 25), and is in the 10th grade. Stephanie will be 13 this year and is in the 6th Grade. They are the joy of my life and I thank God everyday for them.
We attend Grace Bible Church in Elkhart, IN. We have attended there for 15 years and have held various offices and served in many ministries over the years.
College
I attended Cedarville College for 1-1/2 years. In my sophomore year I dropped out (technically I was kicked out but I was leaving anyway). Unfortunately I wasn't living for the Lord then and was more interested in getting married than in what the Lord wanted. Since then the Lord has forgiven me and has blessed my life so much more than I deserve.
I have taken several college courses over the years since leaving Cedarville. Courses in computer and engineering. These have helped me to be able to do the job I am currently doing.
I hope to one day get my bachelors degree, however, time and money has prevented that so far. Thankfully the Christian School doesn't require teachers to have a teaching degree so I have been able to have my dream job without the degree. I still plan on persuing my dream of a degree in Computer & Math someday.
Workplace
I have had many different jobs over the years. Everything from fast-food, bussing tables, convient stores, grocery stores, factories, and banks.
I will focus on my most recent jobs for the sake of space. My last job was from 1999-2003 where I worked in an office that provided material handling goods (convey...Expand for more
ors, lifts, sorters...) to companies. When I left I was working as an enginnering assistant doing AutoCAD work and design. I loved my job there but felt the Lord leading me to spend more time with my children.
Since 2003 I have been working as a teacher at First Baptist Christian School in Mishawaka, IN. I teach Jr. High math and computer to all grades. I love teaching and especially the Jr. High ages. Math is my favorite subject to teach. I'm not all that fond of the elementary grades but I do like teaching computer so I still enjoy that. I also like teaching the High School computer classes. We use a curriculum that teaches all the Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access & Outlook). I have had several of my former students come to me and tell me that they have been able to test out of some of their college computer classes and are finding the computer classes they have to take easy because of taking my classes. This makes me feel like I'm making a difference and feels good.
I don't know how long I'll be teaching but I suppose I'll be here until the Lord leads me to do something else. I love being involved in my kids lives and knowing what's going on with them and who all their friends are. I can't believe the Lord has blessed me like He has!
Military
I have never been in the military, however my husband joined the Air Force one year after we were married. He did his training at Chanute AFB in Rantool, IL, then was stationed at Tinker AFB in Oklahoma City, OK for the remainder of his term. He was a firefighter in the Air Force and loved it. He probably would have remained in the Air Force but I couldn't stand the thought of him being sent on a remote assignment and being seperated from the family for a year or more at a time. He honored my feelings and left the military when his time was up.
