Martha's Story
Life
Round, round, get around, I get around --
After various schools, I moved to Hilton Head, SC and worked in a library. I was persuaded to go to NYC to pursue an acting career, but did more acting in Boston than NY. And when the theatre ran out in Boston, I accidentally became a paralegal, followed by an accidental smashing of my kneecap on the way to work. I rethought my life, and moved back to SC (this time Greenwood -- Hello, Benji) to recover and to watch over my parents.
I went through a handful of non-profit jobs before I ended up back where I started, in a public library.
I bought a house and had my life all arranged -- and then I found the most wonderful man in the world and now we live together outside of sin (but still in Greenwood) with a little black and white mutant kitty.
Now, thanks ...Expand for more
to attrition and my own personal charm, I OWN the library. Okay, I run the Children's Room with a grand staff of one and a half (not counting me).
8/2005: Okay, kitty has passed on and I now have two new ones. Husband still wonderful, job still stressful, but I have another half of a person working for me.
I have skirted fame and fortune and landed safely in a cosy place, still holding to my tenet of "First, Do No Harm." Who can say fairer than that?
Now back to working part-time and convalescing from surgery.
Workplace
Now working in Greenwood, SC in a public library. Still have my name. Working with children, of all things. Now am supervisor of the dept., although tried to get myself demoted recently, so could go back to programming. Tried again and have gone part-time. Dad still alive at 99.
