Martha's Story
The first thing I did after graduation from Mabelvale was to go to college in Oklahoma. I married Francis Martin after my sophomore year and eventually transferred to the University of Louisville where I received a degree in chemistry. Fran and I moved around quite a bit during the 60s, finally settling down in Nashville, TN in 1973. Our only child, Susan was born here in 1975. Susan has two daughters, Emma and Megan, who do all they can to make these the best years of our lives. We feel fortunate in that Susan, Emma, and Megan live nearby. I have worked at Vanderbilt University all except for the first four years after Susan was born. My hobbies are baking and sewing (doing almost anything with fabric, especially quilting). I like these hobbies because I can share the results with friends and co-workers. I enjoy genealogy research, and rejoice in ever...Expand for more
y hero, scoundrel, or plain folk I find who is a relative. I keep up with some news from Mabelvale through my sister, Kay Woolf Williams, who graduated from McClellan in 1972. I'm thinking about retiring by the end of 2010, but we'll see. It would be nice to have time that is not committed to work, perhaps allowing for travel to a Mabelvale reunion.

In July of 2013 I was able to participate in a mission trip to the Bahamas, something I had been wanting to do for a long time. There were 17 members of our church who spent a week in Nassau working at St. Michael's UMC in their VBS and building a covering over the walkway into the church building. Our group also worked with Bahamas Methodist Habitat to make repairs to the home of a person whose was not able to do this for himself. The work and the fellowship were wonderful blessings to all who went.
