Martin's Story
Life
Orphaned at age 9 and placed in foster home on a farm in South Dakota, I was eventually able to work way through college (interspersed with military service), eventually earned bachelor's and masters degrees and ABD(all but dissertation). Career in public education included teaching, guidance counselor and Director of Pupil Services. I am now retired, have had a heart attack and recovered, play Senior Games basketball, sing in church choir, spend part of the winter in my condo in Naples, FL.
My wife, Martha, and I have 4 kids (youngest 42, oldest 5...Expand for more
4) and just passed our 57th wedding anniversary.
Life has been mostly good for me.
Military
Basic training at Lackland Sept. 1952. Pre-Russian Language course Kelly Field Dec. 1952 to March 1953. Syracuse University USAFIT Russian Course March, 1953 to Feb. 1954. Kelly Field Radio OP training March - June 1954. Wheelus Field, Tripoli, Libya July 1954 to July 1955. Samsun, Turkey August - November 1955, then returned to States, was assigned temporarily to Brooks, then Taught in Pre-Russian course at Kelly Field until Separation from Service June, 1956
