Martin's Story

Martin is from Elgin, South Carolina. Martin's schools include Madison-Ridgeland Academy. Martin later attended Mississippi State University (Operations Research, Business Administration). Martin works(ed) at Computer Sciences Corporation, Pontiac Foods, MIneral Recovery Specialists, Inc.. 5/27/2015: Already submitted narrative several years ago on CM, but since I now have two entries due to renewing subscription -out of curiosity about everyone else's lives - guess I'll retype. After MRA I attended Mississippi State. Enrolled in Army ROTC and upon graduation in December 1984, entered active duty. Duty assignments had me stationed at army posts in Washington State (beautiful mtns and ocean), Republic of Turkey, Indiana, South Carolina, Louisiana and Texas. Also toured/visited Greece, Italy, Germany, Hawaii, Canada during service time. Served in varietly of assignments, including Special Forces, armor, infantry, military intelligence, and human resources. Left active duty and began career in private sector, which led me to jobs in Dallas, San Antonio (great city to live, raise family), and northeastern TN, another beautiful mountain area. Enrolled in grad school, earned my MBA at East Tennessee State University. My graduate thesis found me working and living in Bremen, Germany, working on an economic research project for a Mercedes Benz plant. Graduated, moved to subu...Expand for more
rb community (Elgin, SC) of Columbia, SC to work for Kroger. In 2003, two years after 9/11 attack, I became one of those people you read about in newspapers; I was involuntarily recalled to active duty, deployed to Irag where I pulled a combat tour in Baghdad area. For my midlife crisis instead of buying sports car or learning skydiving, i was dodging bullets, mortars, RPGs. Met many great people, saw many good things and some not so good. Made lifelong friends with some fellow paratroopers, formed our own informal "Band of Brothers." Came back to South Carolina in 2005, served in the Army Reserves, and retired as a lieutenant colonel in 2012. Currently work for Computer Science Corporation at Fort Jackson, SC, where I work with electronic and computer specialists managing military vehicle and aviation simulators. I have two daughters, one currently a rising junior at Winthrop University, another about to graduate from Lugoff-Elgin High School. My parents are elderly, but still alive, in relative good health and still reside in the same small white house on the corner of St Augustine and Old Canton Rd, across from MRA. Can't believe its been over a third of a century since high school, so I'm trying to cram as much life, living and adventure into the remaining years, so when I'm old and sitting in my rocker I'll have lifetime of memories to reflect upon and talk about.
