Marvin's Story

To: All who remember the great times we had when the world was just a little bit less insane. Here's to all who share those youthful memories of really good times, before we matured, before we came to know the larger parts of this most complicated existence we call life. Had we known what we know now, nearing 50, our choices would have been better and our goals more discerned, but that would in fact cheat life itself. For the true hold that we have on it, is not its' certainties, or its' delusions, but in our discoverying of the truth and over coming the uncertainties. Destiny is ours to find and although my origins were meager, mine was full of the promise of discovery! It was also, short lived. Had I sought and found great fortune and fame, would it have resulted in success or failure? How far would I have risen or fallen in the quest for treasure and material gain? Would I have come to know my true self or would I have been far more attracted to other things than my deeper self? eparation and play. Although a perfect season was marred by my only nemesis, we had achieved a great goal. The team had realized its first winning season in 10 years. The turning point to a perfect season was our homecoming game against our arch rivals, the Arlington Heights Yellow Jackets. It was a fantastic game with over 8,000 people attending this high school event at Farrington Field. The contest was filled with battle and decidedly the true challenge of our strength. We indeed bested the best on the field, but we came up short on the score board, because of a single concerted act of dubius intent. The teams bond, heart and confidence seemed lost and broken, for the next three games were lost as well. With to teams yet to play we somehow pulled together again, to prove that we were not a fluke, that we were indeed champions on the field. The opportunities brought by the success of all the hard work was something I hadn't really prepared for, and so my pursuit of an athletic career was concluded prematurely, and just as one article commented it was indeed, "short-lived". Or was it? For that was just a single episode of what this journey had to offer.
