Marvin's Story
I always wanted to be a Soldier when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, they were right.
If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have autonomy, responsibility, and loyalty to be able to deal with the day-to-day.
My hero in my life was, and still is, my father. He was firm. He was decisive. But mostly, he was a great provider.
I currently live in Tampa, Florida. I am stationed at MacDill Air Force Base. A 31 year Army guy on an Air Force Base. I wonder who is in shock.
The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Minnie Rivers, because I want to thank her for pushing me and for beating the crap out of me in the 6th Grade.
I am a Die-Hard Dallas Cowboy Fan. I've had some good years and some miserable years.
I have a 31 year old son, Curtis. What I've learned most from him...Expand for more
is that our kids will do what they want when they want to. You can't push them to "be all that you used to be."
If I won $100 million, I'd give $25 million of it to charity and church, then spend the rest on my family, my savings and me.
To be truly happy, I'd be back in Memphis, retired from the military, watching my nieces and nephews grow up with my wife and family.
My current age is 51. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be retired enjoying the fruits of their hard labor. I was so completely disillusioned.
My best friend would tell you I'm wild, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as disciplined.
My oldest friend is Darryl Hamilton. We clicked because I kicked his ass in the 2nd Grade.
Classmates would be surprised that I am still married (31 years) and still in the Army (31 years).
