Mahmoud's Story
Workplace
I was originally recruited and hired by UNations because of my background and experience as a amateur radio operator. I Worked for almost 5 years in UN Field Offices in Liberia (West Africa) as a Radio Officer/Communications Supervisor. Later, I was hired to work as a Telecommunication Officer for the UN Volunteer Program. As a UNV I also worked two years in Liberia. After completing this assignment, I was selected again to serve as a UNV in Angola (Southwest Africa) working with the United Nation DPKO Peace Keeping Mission. My official title was Tele-Communications Officer, however within two weeks after arriving in the Mission area, I was reassign to the Infomatin Technology Unit (under Comms) because that was where I was need...Expand for more
ed the most. I continued to work and gained valuable experience in the area of IT, and was awarded a regular UN contract after two years with the fuctional title, INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ASSISTANT. I am currently completing my third and final year of this contract. Plans now for the future is to return to U.S.A. and hopefully be selected to go back to WEST AFRICA for another assignment with a UN PEACEKEEPING MISSION. If this plan does not develope, I will mostly likely try returning to school for a post-graduate degree in INFORMATION TECHNOLOY/COMPUTER SCIENCES and/or become a volunter for IMANI HOUSE,INT'L a private volunteer organization which have on-going community based projects in the inner city of New York City and Liberia, W. Africa.
