Mary (Kay)'s Story
Life
I now live in Middlebrook,Mo.(Arcadia Valley) it is in the eastern Ozarks. I have been here for about 17 years. I was
in the US Woman's Marine Corps from 1962
to 1964. Married and lived in Quincy,Ill.for about 9 years. Moved to
Burlington,Iowa and lived there off and
on for about 17 years. Divorced in 1976
and am still divorced although I now live with the man I went with while in the Marine Corps and he has 4 Boys and 1 Daughter and we have 4 grandsons and 3
Granddaughters. I come home to Ohio every 2 years for a family reunion and to visit my
sister. I don't
work anymore as I am on SS Disability but when I did, I owned my own Beauty Shop in Ill. for...Expand for more
3 years and all of my
other years of work was as a production
worker in Factories. I was also a Quality Control Technician at Motorola and Exide Battery.
Military
My first assignment and only one was working in the G-3 Admin office at the HQ For the Atlantic Fleet. I was a clerk-typist (and not a very good one). I worked in an office with about 15 men and I was the only female. I was there in April of 1964 when they started the War Room up for the Vietnam War. I then worked for the File Room because I was getting married and getting out of the service in a month. I enjoyed my work and wish I had stayed in the Marine Corps. I made many friends and miss them.
