Mary Anne's Story
Life
Raised in Tucson when it was the loveliest of small towns. And in a time when we didn't have to lock doors and children could just go out to play without worries. A nickel was a lot of money. Attended L. M. Prince Elementary 52-58, Amphi Junior High from 58-60, and AHS 61-65 all with basically the same group of friends. These friends are especially dear these days and we enjoy biannual reunions. Continued with many of the group through UA, graduating in 69, Education.
Upon graduating from the UA in '69 I married a man from Rochester, NY and became a new teacher, new wife and step-mother to 4; ages 5-10. WHAT WAS I THINKING! Rochester was a great place to live! The finger lakes regions is soooo beautiful and we enjoyed much of what the area had to offer: cross country skiiing, bicycling all over the area and even ato Niagara Falls and camping out, and SNOW! LOTS of it!! Also, music, LOTS of it too. Students from the Eastman School of Music played at different, clubs/venues all over town.
Alas, seven years later after being separated for 2 years we divorced and I moved south to Savannah-Georgia.
At 26 I was footloose and fancy free for the first time in my life. For the next few years I enjoyed being single to the fullest and managed to get my Master's degree in Early Childhood Education before beginning teaching here in Savannah.
I have taught 4th, 1st, Kindergarten, Served as Reading Specialist, Tile 1 Chair, Chair of School Improvement Team...Expand for more
, Academic Coach, and am now teaching ESOL! Like both of my parents and grandparent, I have totally enjoyed teaching. There is a Holdeman School( my mom's dad) in Tempe and a Pomeroy School in Mesa (Dad's side ). Eventually I became a Reading Specialist at a Pre-K-5 school in Savannah, Georgia. The most rewarding part of teaching is working with the kids. I especially relish helping the at-risk students become successful!
Marriage #2 a disaster except for the blessing of a son. Patrick, who is now 19, is attending Savannah Technical College working on a 2-year degree with a certification in CISCO (computer networking). Hopefully he will then finish at Georgia Tech. (I will never be able to retire).
Dad died in 1995. Mom is well and thriving and as hard to keep up with as ever. They retired to Patagonia where mom is still a whirling dervish of activities: School Board, Organist for church, piano teacher to about 25 children and adults, Music teacher at the Montesorri school there 2/week, accompanies various musical groups, has HUGE garden, and 13 great-grands she keeps up with.
We try to make it back to AZ every summer to visit family, etc. We are wild UA Basketball fans and are very sad that we lost Lute, but knew that eventually it would happen. All the more reason the support the kids/team through this transition. GOCATS!
Wishing anyone who reads this all the very best and good health for the future!
And, YES, Beatles music still makes me happy!
