Mary Beth's Story

Life Hi to everyone who is visiting! I guess that this is kind of like my personal blog . . . Life has been pretty good since I graduated in 1980 from Redford Union! I have a job, I have a healthy family, and I have a roof over my head. I am not rich financially, but I feel rich in all areas of my personal life! I met my future husband in 1980; Glen went to the "other" high school in Redford! It is hard to believe that I have known him for over half of my life now. We got married in 1986 and had our one and only child in 1991. My son's name is Brandon and he will be entering 11th grade at Franklin High School in a few weeks. Time really does fly and I cannot believe that he will be graduating in 2 years!! He will be joining the wrestling team again this year; Brandon is a great kid and on most days, I would not trade him for the world! He has a girlfriend named Shelby who he says he is going to marry one day (I told him that he should get a job, go to college, and earn some money first . . . ha ha!). She is a sweatheart, too! We currently live in Livonia; this is house #5! We started out in Redford, then Livonia, Howell, Livonia, and Livonia!!! I think we will stay put in this house for awhile! We still live close to my mom and dad; I realize that each day they walk the earth is a good day! We have been in our current house a little over three years. I have planted MANY perrenials and have created new gardens surrounding our entire home! I finally got the gardening bug about 5 years back (I say finally because I call my other 2 sisters "Martha Tina" and "Martha Pam." Pam is a Master Gardener, so she is better than any book if I have a question)! I have an extremely hard time relaxing and staying put in one place for very long. My stress reliever is to "be one with the earth" and see what happening with my plants and flowers. I love to go out early in the morning with my dogs to water and pull weeds . . . very relaxing!! Ahhh . . . o...Expand for more
n to the dogs. Since I was off work for the summer, my main project was our new puppy, Copper. I forgot how much puppies like to chew and I never remember any of the others testing the waters like this one does! He is, however, a very sweet boy!! Our other dog, Molly, has really come to enjoy him. Molly has been queen bee of the household for the past 2 1/2 years, so it was quite interesting to see how they reacted to each other during the first couple of weeks!! If anyone is considering getting a dog, I would highly reccommend getting a basset hound! Talk about unconditional love!! I have been working with children in some capacity since 1982. I started out as a preschool teacher for Livonia Little Tots for 3 years and then 1 year at St. Bede's Preschool in Southfield. When they closed, I became the Director of Christ the King Child Care in Detroit for the next 4 years. In 1990, I was hired by Livonia Public Schools and have been there ever since! I have taught SACC (School-Age Child Care), K-SACC, and preschool at Jackson Center. My current position is Assistant Coordinator for the SACC Program; it's hard to believe that I will be starting my 6th year in the office! I LOVE my job. I work hard, but it is my mission to make work fun for everyone around me (they call me the "cruise director"). I guess you could say that my other job is winning contests. It seems that I am always on the run! Everyone else benefits because I am always taking them to a concert, out to a movie, out to eat, or to some other activity! My friends and I go to ALOT of concerts (I have enjoyed doing this since high school; I was the designated driver back then because I had my license before my other friends). This has enabled me to try alot of new things that I otherwise could not afford. As the saying goes, "You can't win if you don't try!" My son says that I am "addicted" . . . if this is the worst addiction that I could have, I say "Bring it on!" Enjoy life!!
