Mary's Story

Life I will start from the beginning of my life. I was born and raised in Miami, living on SW 33rd Ave and 27 St. Both of my parents died before I graduated high school, so I was pretty much on my own until I met my wonderful husband. We were married on June 13, 1970, the day after graduation, and have been together ever since. I actually received an award at our 30th reunion for being married the longest out of our graduating class, it's the only award I ever got from Coral Gables, as I wasn't much into school back then. We have two children Doug and Lea and 3 beautiful granddaughters Payton, Tristyn, and Camryn. We left the big city of Miami in 1977, and moved to the beautiful upstate area of South Carolina. We now call this our home with no intentions of ever leaving. We sometimes go back to Miami, but it has changed so much I don't enjoy it when I am there, way too many people and too much traffic. I spent 15 years teaching electronics, got burned out on that and went to work for a German auto parts manufacturer. I was fortunate to be able to travel all ...Expand for more
over Europe as part of my job, but it became too hectic and I made the decision to look for something that wasn't keeping me away from my family so much. I went to work in the peri-operative services at a local hospital as a PCT/phlebotomist , a totally different occupation from what I was use to most of my life. But,I enjoy working with people so it is very satisfying and slower paced. I decided to retire in 2011. My husband Sonny was a Project Manager/Estimator for a small company that manufactures metal enclosures for power companies.. He retired in 2018. We live a pretty laid back life, nothing real exciting. We love fishing and hunting and spending time with the family . We have four dogs, which include, three Shih Tzus and one German Shepherd.. We raise birds which started as a hobby and got out of control, lol. I raise Green Cheeked Conures, Love Birds, Parrotlets, Quakers., Indian Ring Necks, Sun Conures, Cockatiels, Red Rumps, Bourkes, Kakarikis and parakeets. They keep me busy hand feeding their babies but it is a fun hobby to have in my old age.
