Mary Chris's Story

After graduating High School, I attended Pima Community College and graduated in 1990 with an AAS degree in interpreting (American Sign Language). I am Nationally Certified and am just now considering returning to receive a bachelor's in my field- BUT am I REALLY ready to do MORE homework? In 1998, I moved with my family to Ft Collins, Colorado then again in 2001 to Cheyenne, Wyoming- where I am currently living. I freelance in the tri-state area (Wyoming, Nebraska and Colorado), but am mainly an Independent Contractor at the University of Wyoming and a Video Relay Interpreter for Sorenson Communications. I am currently single and raising 5 children: Kristi (my niece) 21, Myra 14, MicahDean 12, MollyDee 10, and Maitlan 8. I enjoy bowling (146 average), walking/hiking (hiked around Devil's Tower- Close Encounters Mountain), reading (mysteries, sci-fi, Fiction), movies (Favs: The Holiday, Transformers, Heartbreak Ridge, Harry Potter), taking my kids out on one-on-one dates, and travelling (obviously I drive a LOT but would LOVE to get out East- Planning a trip to New York City this Summer). We have 3 dogs: Jasper (the co-dependant Lhaso Apso, Lily (the Hyper collie-mix) and Rex (the Border Collie with Separation Anxiety); 2 cats: Sunshine and Scrawnald Edward Jones. My beloved cat, Toby, was becoming too frail and suffering so we mercifully let him sleep 1 month shy of his 18th birthday- which would have been March 10th, 2009. As far as my family goes, My father passed away in 1993 of Esophogeal Cancer and my mother passed away March 2008 of Lung Cancer. My oldest sister, Kathy, currently lives in Virginia and is a grandmother 3 times *wow* at the young age (in my opinion) of 45. My other sister, JoAnna Harris (Akins), lives in Campbell California with her family- her husband Chris and their 3 children: Patrick(soon to be 18), Veronica (11) and Jessica (6). My family and I see Jo's family once a year during the summer for a family get together. We will probably join them at Disneyland again, also this summer. See, LOTS of travelling :0) My most fo...Expand for more
nd memories of high school are: going through the McDonald's drive thru backwards in my parents' Plymouth station wagon; walking through the mall with Mitzi Mitchem, John Dugan and Thom Turner in giant black trash bags so that we could look more 'punk'; having my birthday party at Halloween so can have a sleep-over movie marathon with guests in costume (I was a teenage werefwolf with my hair braided in tons of tiny braids then undone to make my long hair look poofy)- then everyone thought my birthday was in October; art class with Mr. McCue and failing only because I wanted to express myself more creatively than follow the restrictions put in place by the tyranny of our educational system lol; NEWSPAPER. The only time I've ever been published, yet. HEY Scoop (Robert Umstott)! SO glad that we keep in touch!!! My most favorite memories since then: the view from 'A' Mountain at night (especially since I got glasses and could SEE individual lights. Have since had Lasik and LOVE it!!); teaching Kristi to drive a stick-shift; The dimple in Myra's right cheek that she got on the same day her brother was born- while at the baby-sitter, she fell over the arm of the couch and hit her cheek on a speaker. When it healed, it created a dimple; my son holding the hand of his new-born baby sister- I thought his hands were the cutest, tiniest things and when she was born it seemed that they inflated overnight to huge maws. I love his hands; MollyDee's laugh- she laughs like Betty Rubble; Maitlan's energy- she'll climb ANYTHING! if I'm looking for her, she typically is UP!; Seeing the eagles fly around Devil's Tower; Driving through Texas Canyon and remembering when I was a kid and convincing my parents that seeing the Thing would be REALLY cool- haven't taken MY kids lol; Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse; the view of a Full moon (blue actually) from the Golden Gate Bridge; the Grand Canyon; the bluffs in New Mexico/Arizona on Route 66- they really DO look like Radiator Springs in Cars; the green of my mother's eyes; my dad's smile- that I see everytime my son smiles....
