Mary Colette's Story

I've taken a rather circuitous route to the Philly suburbs since graduating from Uni in '84. I've lived with my family in Rutledge, PA (a small borough about 20 minutes from central Philadelphia) for almost a year. My family includes my husband, Jason Patent (originally from Montana), our two Chinese daughters (aged 4 and 6), our 2 cats and our Golden Retriever.
I've spent most of my years since my undergrad in the San Francisco Bay Area and in China. I met my husband in grad school at Stanford where I was studying Chinese history (he's also a "China hand"). We spent a lot of time going back and forth to China together, leading Amer...Expand for more
ican high school students on adventure learning programs and eventually working for American overseas studies programs in Beijing. Last year we left Beijing after a 3 year stint there. Jason is now working for a consulting firm and I'm starting this fall as an assistant prof of world history at Widener University (10 minutes door to door from our home!).
Fortunately, my parents are still in San Diego (Encinitas) so I get back there fairly regularly. My brother, Mark (Uni, '88) lives in Orange County with his wife (Maria Vegas, '88) and 2 children so I'm also in that area a couple of times a year.
