Marilu's Story
I am originally from Dormont, PA, but our family moved to Butler when I was 10, so I attended elementary school in Pittsburgh (Kelton), and elementary (Lyndora) and junior high in Butler. We then moved to Saxonburg, where I graduated from Mars Area High School. I was in Brownies and Girl Scouts (as a Junior and Senior, but not Cadette), and my mom was an assistant Junior troop leader.
I received my Bachelor of Music in Education from Arizona State University, and my MBA in Human Resource Management from Columbia Southern University in Orange Beach, AL. I'm working on my Ed,.D., and have about half the classes completed, but have put it on pause until I am ready to resume the heavy reading and writing. Greek? Yep! Kappa Kappa Psi, Sigma Alpha Iota, and Delta Epsilon Tau. Now happily divorced, I was married for 12 years but had no kids.
Career-wise, I have been a business consultant/analyst for retail, specifically food/drug/mass/convenient stores, implementing software lifecycle systems/business process re-engineering projects. I moved on to incorporate that with my degree work, and became an education consultant on other types of projects, including some with state agencies. Have had quite a variety of jobs, but my current one is my mo...Expand for more
st favorite - Instructional Designer. I moved around frequently to accommodate jobs, and have been a resident of seven different states over the years. Don't plan to retire until I "have" to do so.
"Great moments in life" : Got to see the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City with my brother, who passed away in 2018, and I've seen the Steelers play in 5 different stadiums. Have traveled to England, Scotland, Holland, and Canada for work, and have visited every one of the 50 states, including about 75% of the 400+ sites administered by the National Park Service. I've also been to Mexico, Guatemala, and Venezuela. I volunteer to assist with programs given by the local Astronomical Society, and enjoy church activities.
All that aside, I think the best experiences I had in life came to me when I was a counselor at Camp Lutherlyn in Prospect, PA, during high school and college. The relationships I made there are much revered, and have lasted as long or longer than any others I made through schools or neighborhoods.
Life has had its ups and downs, but I feel blessed to have a strong faith, and to be safe, comfortable, happy, and healthy. No matter where I live, or where I go, Pittsburgh "steels" my heart, and will be forever my hometown.
